Support local organizations/non-profits:

NAACP Hawaii recently held a debate for the Honolulu Prosecuting Candidates as well as an online Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration.
“The NAACP is the world’s oldest and largest civil rights organization.” This is the Hawaii Chapter.
You can donate to the NAACP (National) here.

The Popolo Project holds virtual conversations and panels with leaders in the community and recently participated in the Sundance Film Festival through a panel partnership with HoMA.
“The Pōpolo Project is a Hawai‘i-based nonprofit organization that redefines what it means to be Black in Hawai‘i and in the world through cultivating radical reconnection to ourselves, our community, our ancestors, and the land, changing what we commonly think of as Local and highlighting the vivid, complex diversity of Blackness.”

“Non-profit organization dedicated to pooling people and resources for the benefit of minority owned businesses and affiliates.”

Honolulu African American Film Festival – Feb 26-28, 2021 recently offered a free screening of a new movie, KAPAEMAHU and will be holding their 2021 film festival virtually from February 26-28th.
Their “mission is to celebrate African American cinema and the African cultural Diaspora. Our film festival is a month-long event that showcases a diverse collection of films from around the world – all reinforcing positive images and dispelling negative stereotypes. Our six-member committee works closely with Museum film curator Abigal Algar to bring together many diverse cultures and lifestyles of Hawaii, and initiate dialogue on the important issues of our times.”

Hawaii Community Bail Fund is “currently carrying out a mass bailout” and encourages people to fill out the form on their site if they need assistance.
“Money bail for pretrial detention is demonstrably counterproductive making its persistence punitive and regressive. Like the rest of the Criminal Justice System, it disproportionately affects Hawaiians and other people of color. Members of our community who are held in pretrial detention for no reason other than lack of access to money lose jobs, housing, and parental rights everyday – this fact is an abomination of justice and must end.
By paying bail for Hawai‘i residents we are keeping people out of jail, protecting the presumption of innocence, and proving that cash bail is unnecessary.”
