This transformative project\, sponsored by the Gerbode Foundation and the Kenneth Rainin Foundation\, features original mele inoa (name songs) that honor historical figures and stories\, ensuring that their legacies become an integral part of Hawaiian cultural memory. \nRecognizing the significance of this project\, four-time Grammy Award winner Kalani Pe‘a joins an impressive roster of artists\, including Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award winners Kamakakēhau Fernandez\, and Patrick Landeza\, Ikaika Blackburn\, jazz vocalist Azure McCall\, as well as award-winning composer Māhealani Uchiyama and her Hālau Ka Ua Tuahine in performance.\n“Māhealani Uchiyama released her newest song on Lei Day. It is part of the album\, “Pōpoloheno: Songs of Resilience and Joy\,” which launches June 13 and celebrates a compilation of stories of people of African descent in Hawaiian history.”

His quick\, animated delivery of clever material led him to victory in the prestigious 32nd Annual San Francisco International Comedy Competition. Paul headlines shows around the world! \nOn television\, Paul’s one-hour special\, “A Collection Of My Favorite Lies\,” debuted recently on Amazon Prime. Paul also had one of the only half-hour specials on Comedy Central Asia. In America\, you can see Paul on the Showtime presentation of “Pacific Rim Comedy.” Paul has also been featured on Comedy Central’s “Live at Gotham”\, the syndicated “Comics Unleashed with Byron Allen” and co-stars in the underground hit motion picture\, “Porndogs” with adult-movie legends Ron Jeremy\, Tera Patrick and the late Marilyn Chambers. He has also appeared in Damon Wayans’ film “Behind the Smile”\, on ABC’s “Celebrity Family Feud\,” on CBS’ “The Late Late Show” as well as on TBS\, NBC and PBS. \nIn 2024\, catch Paul Ogata as he splits his time with residencies aboard Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas and at Cirque du Soleil’s Mad Apple in Las Vegas. \nKERMET APIO BIO\nBorn and raised in Honolulu\, Hawaii\, Kermet Apio enjoyed a childhood in paradise. He spent his time watching television\, playing\, and procrastinating everything else. To this day\, he still does all three extensively. \nAfter graduating from high school\, Kermet moved to Seattle to attend the University of Washington. Seattle became home. In early 1989\, Kermet did his first open mike night at the Comedy Underground in Seattle. Comedy was a fun hobby. In May of 1990\, he quit his job\, said good bye to health care and benefits\, and took the leap to performing full time. It is still his only job skill. \nHe was the winner of the 2009 Great American Comedy Festival and has had numerous appearances on television and radio. He has showcased at comedy festivals in Aspen\, Las Vegas\, and Vancouver and has performed in 47 states and 3 Canadian provinces. He is a past winner of the Seattle Comedy Competition and was a semi-finalist in the San Francisco Comedy Competition. Also\, in 1988 he was Dishwasher of the Month at the Sea-Tac Airport Denny’s.\nKermet is married and the proud father of two wonderful children. He enjoys his family\, baseball\, and pie.
